Factors Influencing Major Satisfaction of Nursing Students

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study examined the emotional intelligence, ego-resiliency, communication competence and satisfaction among nursing college students.
Methods: Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression.
Results: Satisfaction with major showed significant differences according to gender, age, grade, reason for department selection. Satisfaction with major had a statistically positive correlation with emotional intelligence, ego-resiliency and communication competence. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that predictors of satisfaction with major were emotional intelligence and communication competence. Results showed that aptitude and female gender accounted for 44.9% of the variance.
Conclusions: It is necessary to identify factors that affect satisfaction with major and develop a program that assesses motivation for undertaking a nursing major, to reinforce admission policies.
